Glenn is not only a jazz musician, he is also a dancer and therefore, understands both dual perspectives. He will be conducting this full day intensive with several goals in mind: teaching you, not only the the essentials to understanding music better, but also helping you develop tools to make sense of the music in order to be able to dance to it more successfully. Glenn is known for making his material and instruction easily-accessible for beginners up through master level dancers. Of course, this event is not only open to dancers, so if you are jazz aficionados, please do join us. This event is open to anyone and everyone interested in learning more about jazz and the history of jazz.
This is a really big deal and we are just tickled with joy and excitement about this opportunity in San Francisco.
Here's Glenn on the importance of musical understanding for swing dancers:
"The dancers that we all look up to from the ‘30s and ‘40s grew up with the culture of this music around them, so their understanding came from immersion. This workshop will give you a foundation in the music, an understanding of the history and different styles, and tools you can use to help you listen more carefully and delve more deeply into the music. Opening up your ears steps your dancing up a level - instantly."
Sign up online for the full day for $70!
At the door: $75, or drop in to individual workshops for $20 each.

Sunday, September 8th:
Classes start at 12:00pm
5 hours of workshops with a break for dining, followed by dancing
As dancers, the classes we take often focus on executing patterns on and within a certain number of beats - the common being 6 & 8. As such, we can get very good at hearing the beat over the music.
While finding the beat is vital, an often overlooked component is Musicality. One of the best ways we’ve heard it described is having the feeling of ‘not dancing to a song, but with it‘. That feeling is what motivated us to put together this very special workshop with Glenn Crytzer - an accomplished Jazz composer, arranger, musician and Lindy Hop dancer.
Each 60 minute session will have an open format with 30 minutes breaks in between to provide you an opportunity to apply applicable concepts to your dancing.
Fours topics were selected specifically to expand your understanding of Jazz, thereby providing a basis from which to enhance the way you listen and dance to Swing music.
