this is a great time to support your child's dance endeavors and for you to have a little fun in your day as well.
These dance classes are designed to open an individual's minds to the vast world of dance. Our classes will help children develop a stronger sense of confidence through the study of music, dance, and movement.
We will explore different dance styles and allow the children opportunities for self-expression and experimentation with movement.
We will start with jazz movement exploration in the early weeks of the class.
Children will have an opportunity to also share their ideas about dance as we learn about techniques such as call and response, improvisation, lead and follow, rhythm exercises, and more.
There is no set class attire, however, we do encourage children to wear lightweight, easy to move in garments. We will be dancing mostly in socks or soft shoes such as ballet slippers or jazz shoes. You do not need to buy special clothing or shoes for our regular classes.

About your teachers this session:
Alice Charland -
Alice Charland is originally from Carlisle PA. She began studying piano at the age of 6 and voice at the age of 14. Throughout her upbringing, Alice participated in various musical groups well known in the area such as the Susquehanna Youth and Children’s Choral as well as PMTA and PMEA festivals. After high school, Alice went on to study Music Education at Pennstate with an emphasis in voice and completed her education by student teaching in Cumberland Valley School district. After the completion of her degree, Alice moved to NC where she took a position teaching k-5 general music at an inner-city Charlotte school. Here she enjoyed teaching children to sing, dance, and play classroom instruments such as the recorder, xylophones, and rhythm instruments. She also lead the children in putting on mini musicals. After teaching here for 3 years, she moved up to the greater Boston area and taught k-5 general music and middle school chorus. In addition to her two public school teaching experiences, Alice has taught private piano lessons for 12 years, and preschool music classes for 3 years. She also lead children’s music at Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, and sings at the Life Teen mass at Good Shephard Catholic Church on a weekly basis. Additionally she holds an orff-schulwerk level 1 certification and a valid PA teaching license.
